Play with Purpose:

Where Exploration Leads to Growth

We believe that play is more than just fun—it’s a powerful tool for learning. Our “play with purpose” philosophy encourages children to explore, make mistakes, and try again in a safe and supportive environment. Whether they’re building with blocks, digging in the mud, or resolving a problem, every moment is an opportunity for them to develop creativity, resilience, and problem-solving skills. We celebrate the process of discovery, knowing that each attempt—whether successful or not—helps children grow in confidence and curiosity. At Green Garden, your child will learn that mistakes aren’t setbacks; they’re stepping stones to finding a different way forward.

Learning Wellness:

Nurturing the Whole Child

At Green Garden, we focus on the wellness of the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our approach nurtures emotional, physical, and mental well-being through daily mindfulness practices, a nutritious organic menu, and sensory-rich activities like mud play. Whether it’s calming yoga sessions during story time, hands-on mud play that connects children to nature, or healthy meals that fuel their growth, we ensure every aspect of their day promotes balance and wellness., an essential part of the Green Garden experience.

Outdoor Classrooms

Learning in Nature

At Green Garden, our outdoor classrooms offer children the chance to learn and grow while immersed in nature. These spaces are designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and a sense of independence. From exploring the gardens to engaging in outdoor yoga, children can spend as much time outside as they like, connecting with the natural world in meaningful ways. Just like our mud play, classroom pets, and forest trails, our outdoor classrooms are an integral part of our whole-child approach, ensuring that every child can explore, learn, and thrive at their own pace.

Learning to care deeply

For our Earth, friends, and family

Caring for others is at the heart of all we do—whether it’s our classmates or our beloved classroom pets. Every living creature in our care receives love and attention, playing a special role in teaching children the values of empathy, responsibility, and kindness. From feeding the chickens to snuggling with our fluffy bunny, these daily interactions create meaningful opportunities to foster compassion. Whether we’re comforting a sad classmate or tending to our pets, it all contributes to our focus on whole-child wellness, helping children grow emotionally and socially in a nurturing environment.

Imagination Wilderness

Immersive forest trails

Our private forest trails provide a unique, immersive experience where children can explore the wonders of nature firsthand. Whether they’re climbing over tree roots or listening to birdsong, these trails offer opportunities for adventure and learning that connect children to the natural world. Just like our mud play, outdoor classrooms, and classroom pets, our forest trails are essential to our holistic approach, encouraging children to develop a deep appreciation for the environment while supporting their physical and emotional well-being.

Green Garden Curriculum

At all Green Garden locations, the HighScope curriculum is our curriculum of choice for all ages. The HighScope curriculum is widely celebrated throughout the world and is home-grown right here in our own backyard with the foundation located right in Ypsilanti, MI. Beginning with the Perry Preschool Study, the HighScope Curriculum “uses active learning and the plan-do-review process to achieve powerful, positive outcomes” for all children. HighScope is a research based curriculum model that empowers young thinkers to question their world and draw conclusions based on their experiences. Ongoing relationships with familiar caregivers, highly skilled in the art of scaffolding children’s learning, are essential for your child to thrive both in early learning and beyond
