Work worth returning to.
Open-ended materials let children explore their own ideas, revise a plan, and express what they are thinking.
Green Garden · Clawson
A big idea can begin with water, a sketch, a question about the chickens, or a challenge outdoors. At Clawson, children have space to follow it from the Art Studio to five outdoor classroom areas and back again.
The day can go many directions
In the Art Studio, children can work with materials, change a plan, and return to a project. Outside, movement and natural spaces bring fresh questions. The same idea may look different in each setting.
Teachers observe what children are trying, offer a useful question or material, and give them time to test what happens next. The goal is to keep children’s thinking active throughout the day.

A school with room for more
Clawson gives children more than one way to investigate a question and more than one place to revisit it.
Open-ended materials let children explore their own ideas, revise a plan, and express what they are thinking.
Children can move, build, balance, observe, and learn with natural materials across five outdoor classroom areas.
Our chickens offer real moments to slow down, observe an animal, and learn what gentle care looks like.
Give an idea some time, and a child may take it somewhere new.
Beyond four walls
Children watch changes in the garden, test balance and coordination, use water and loose parts, and spend time near the chickens. Outdoor play is another place for relationships, investigation, and joy.
Five outdoor classroom areas allow teachers to follow different interests and return to a project over days or weeks.
