What is GSRP?
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children.
The program prepares children to enter kindergarten. Each child will learn physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills through our play-based approach and curriculum.
Curriculum
The HighScope Curriculum is a developmentally appropriate approach that is child-centered and promotes active learning. It is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum designed to provide a rich academic foundation while promoting young children’s independence, decision-making, cooperation, creativity, and problem-solving. The curriculum includes learning objectives, effective adult interaction strategies, and assessment measures that help programs ensure a high-quality experience for all learners. The HighScope Curriculum features active learning at its core. In a HighScope classroom, children are guided to explore, interact, and exercise their creative imagination through purposeful play.

Daily Schedule
Does my child need to go to preschool?
Preschool is an important step in preparing your child for kindergarten. It helps them to develop the skills they will need to succeed in school and life.
In preschool, children learn how to socialize with their peers, follow directions, and communicate their wants and needs. They also learn basic academic skills such as counting, letter recognition, and problem-solving. By the time they are ready for kindergarten, they will have developed a strong foundation of skills and knowledge to help them succeed!
Kindergarten Readiness
How do we prepare our students for kindergarten?
Throughout the day, we are helping our students build academic skills, confidence, and independence. You will not find a worksheet in our classrooms. Our students learn by doing. We do this through engagement and interaction. We use developmentally appropriate practices to meet our children where they are at and help build upon their learning.
Each day we plan lessons for the next day based on the interests of our children.

Social-Emotional Development
Each classroom is equipped with elements to help support our young learners’ social and emotional growth, from safe spaces where children practice self-regulation skills to solution kits that assist in problem-solving. Our classrooms and teachers have many tools to prepare our preschool children to enter elementary school. Daily practices that take place in all of our classrooms include breathing techniques, sensory exploration, engaged teachers, conversations and activities centered around emotions, and appropriate materials.
